Why Coronavius is not a common cold virus?

It is not just a stronger flu. It is a new variant of a known virus family. It is new to your immune system so when the virus enters your body your immune system has to find an answer. In the mean time the virus kills a lot of your cells in your upper respiratory tract.A healthy respiratory tract moves the mucus layer on the lining of you throat, and upper airways, the bronchi, upward to your throat and the mucus is swallowed and the virus end in a the hydrochloric bath of your stomach. But when the virus had killed a lot of cells in the upper respiratory tract then it gets lower and starts to kill lung cells. A general inflammation response to the killed cells will narrow the airways and cause a fever. When you have a fever you need more oxygen. Your immune system is busy to find an answer to develop the right antibodies against the virus. When your immune system is successful before you succumb by lack of oxygen, you will recover and in a few weeks time you will be right as rain. But when you are a smoker with smoke related damaged lungs, or you lived many years in smog ridden cities, or you have impaired your immune system by lack of sleep working two jobs to make ends meet then it could kill you.Like influenza kills these people when they are not vaccinated. And it is impossible to have a vaccine ready for this new virus in a few months. It takes easily a year and perhaps the virus is too versatile to make good working vaccines. Perhaps we cannot eradicate this virus and we have to live with it the coming decades while it wipes out one hundred million people, many frail, but also many rather young and fit individuals. That is why it is now newsworthy.
